The goal of the game
In blackjack you play against the dealer, not against the other players at the table. The aim is to finish with a hand worth more than the dealer's hand without going over 21. Number cards count at face value, jacks, queens and kings count as 10, and an ace counts as 1 or 11, whichever suits the hand better. An ace together with any ten-value card as the first two cards is a blackjack, the strongest hand in the game.
How a round works at a live table
- You place your bet within the time window shown on the screen.
- The dealer deals two cards to each player and cards to themselves, usually with one of them face up.
- Each player in turn decides how to play the hand.
- The dealer reveals the hidden card and draws further cards according to fixed rules printed on the table.
- Hands are compared and winning bets are paid.
In a live casino the cards are dealt by a real dealer and streamed to your screen, while bets and decisions are entered in the game interface. At Tipsport Vegas, live casino games such as VIP Blackjack were on offer on 7 October 2026; the range of tables can change, and the current game categories are summarised on the home page.
Player decisions and terms
| Term | What it means | When it usually comes up |
|---|---|---|
| Hit | Take another card | Your total is low, or another card cannot take you over 21 |
| Stand | Keep your current hand | Your total is already high enough |
| Double down | Double your bet and receive exactly one more card | A strong starting total such as 10 or 11 against a weaker dealer card |
| Split | Turn a pair into two hands, each with its own bet | Pairs such as aces or eights, depending on table rules |
| Insurance | A side bet that the dealer has blackjack when showing an ace | Usually poor value for the player over the long run |
| Bust | A hand worth more than 21 | The bet is lost immediately, even if the dealer busts later |
Table rules that change the odds
Blackjack is not one fixed game. Small rule differences change the house edge, which is why it is worth reading the rules of each table before you play. Look in particular at the following points.
- Blackjack payout. The traditional payout is 3 to 2. Some tables pay less, which noticeably raises the house edge.
- Dealer on soft 17. Whether the dealer must stand or draw on a total of 17 that includes an ace counted as 11.
- Doubling and splitting. Which totals you may double on, whether you may double after a split and how many times you may split.
- Number of decks. Fewer decks generally favour the player slightly.
- Minimum and maximum bets. These differ from table to table and decide whether the game fits your budget at all.
Where the house edge comes from
The dealer's advantage is simple: you act first. If you bust, you lose, even if the dealer busts afterwards. The higher payout for a blackjack and the options to double or split give some of that advantage back, but not all of it. Players who follow a mathematically derived basic strategy for the specific rules can bring the house edge down to a small percentage, while players who play by feel usually give away considerably more.
No strategy removes the edge completely, and betting systems that raise stakes after losses do not change the odds of a single hand. They only change how quickly a budget can disappear. The same logic is explained for slots in Slot myths and how random number generators work.
Before you sit down at a table
- Read the table rules and check the payout for a blackjack.
- Check the minimum bet and make sure that several rounds fit into your budget.
- Decide in advance when you will leave the table, both after losses and after wins.
- Check how table games count towards bonus wagering. According to earlier information, the Tipsport Vegas deposit bonus is wagered on slots only; this was not verified on 7 October 2026, so check the bonus terms at tipsport.cz.
